Report from Lambeth:
The drop in membership numbers has stabilized at 13 (plus one Honourary). Unfortunately, a number of current members are unavailable to participate fully in club activities due to circumstances of geography, personal and professional commitments. Members are working through membership scenarios through its Club Futures Committee. The club is not yet at a point of deciding upon options.
Lambeth club, partnering with London Community Chaplaincy and Junior Acheivement, is nearing the conclusion of a community/vocational project, bringing a J.A. program to the Southdale/Millwood assisted housing community. The project has Rotary using JA training materials and Rotary volunteers to guide a group of grade 5 students in creating, organizing and then implementing their own plan for a small business in their neighbourhood.
The program teaches the elementary school students (group of seven) how to develop a business plan, how to identify a product opportunity, a target market, costs and cost controls, loans & loan re-payment, pricing & pricing strategy, production planning & implementation, marketing & promotion, sales, delivery and profit-sharing (including giving back some percentage to others in greater need). With guidance from Rotary mentors, the students make all decisions relevant to their business – Candy Lovers Co. Kids of Southdale.
The Club, partnered with the Lions Club and the Optimists of Lambeth, is working on a project to significantly improve the acoustics at Lambeth Community Centre. Meetings with the Lions and Optimists continue.
Lambeth Rotary received recognition at the Foundation Seminars in Michigan as well as London, for its high level of donations to Foundation and PolioPlus.
Lambeth Rotary will celebrate Christmas with a Gala fund-raising event at Greenhills Golf Course – live musical entertainment, festive full-service dinner (cash bar), notable guests, silent & live auction. Dress code – Festive. $55.
The L.C.C./J.A./Rotary vocational partnership, Rotarians are planning a Southdale neighbourhood finance literacy project to follow up on the “A Business of My Own” project.
The new project, set to begin mid-January 2018 is called “Dollars with Sense”. Lambeth club is offering Area 4 Rotarians an opportunity to work directly with senior elementary school students, delivering financial literacy education through a one-month, once-a-week after-supper program at LCC’s Southdale meeting-place.
